A Snapshot of the Personal Data Protection Act: Act Number 11 of 2022

In 2022, the Parliament of Tanzania officially enacted and passed The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). The Act is very important because prior to its enactment there had not been a comprehensive stand-alone legislation that governs and protects personal data in the Country.

The PDPA is enacted with objective of establishing a legal basis for collecting and processing personal data, this is also by laying down principles to be considered by the data collectors and data processors when collecting and processing personal data. Another objective is to protect personal data and to establish a legal basis for protection and transfer of personal data.
